April 06, 2013:  Motor Vehicle Crash - Updated to fatal

The following incident occurred on April 5, 2013:

Traffic Crash - Update:

At 6:20 P.M., Deputies, along with the Brodhead Fire Department, Brodhead Area EMS, Green County EMS, Janesville EMS and Medflight, responded to a two-vehicle crash on STH 11, approximately 0.6 of a mile east of STH 81/CTH GG, in the Town of Spring Grove. Investigation revealed that a vehicle being operated by Donna M. Wenger, age 61, of Brodhead, was eastbound on STH 11 when it was suspected that Wenger fell asleep and drifted across the westbound lane of STH 11 and into the shoulder. A vehicle operated by Daniel B. Bradford, age 43, of Janesville, was westbound on STH 11 and observed the Wenger vehicle cross into the westbound lane of travel. Bradford veered right in order to avoid a collision and then observed Wenger's vehicle correct back towards the centerline. Bradford then braked heavily, but the vehicles collided head on. Wenger was wearing her seatbelt and was transported by Medflight for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Bradford and his passenger Erika E. Schultz, age 44, of Janesville, were both wearing seatbelts and were transported by Green County EMS for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Both vehicles sustained severe damage, with airbag deployment, and were towed from the scene.

UPDATE:

On Saturday 04-06-13 at approximately 9:00 AM, the Green County Coroner's Office notified the Green County Sheriff Department that Donna M. Wenger, age 61, of Brodhead, had passed away from her injuries she sustained in the motor vehicle crash.  The crash remains under investigation with the Green County Coroner’s Office and the Green County Sheriff’s Department.  This is Green County’s first Fatality for 2013.
