June 21, 2013:  Fatal Crash Victims Identified

At approximately 2:10 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013, the Green County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a two vehicle head-on crash, on State Highway 69 near Exeter Crossing Rd. in New Glarus Township.  Deputies, along with New Glarus Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene, which was determined to be about .8 mile south of Exeter Crossing Rd. on a straight section of State Highway 69.

An initial investigation into the crash indicates that an automobile driven by an adult male was southbound on State Highway 69 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a northbound van, also driven by an adult male.  The crash heavily damaged both vehicles and both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene by the Green County Coroner.  The drivers were the lone occupants in each vehicle.

The Wisconsin State Patrol was requested to complete an accident reconstruction and State Highway 69 was closed for several hours as traffic was rerouted.  Monticello Police, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin State Patrol, Green County Highway Department and Monticello Fire Department all provided assistance in rerouting traffic and at the crash scene.  Other than operating left of center, deputies are attempting to determine if there were other factors that contributed to the crash.  We do not anticipate that any additional information will be released until Friday morning, after the victim’s relatives have been notified.

Victims Identified/Additional Details released on June 21, 2013

David L. Bridgeland, age 23, of Monroe was the operator of a 1999 Toyota Camry that crossed the centerline of State Highway 69 and collided head-on with a 2012 Ford Transit Van operated by Joshua A. Langkamp, age 32, of Dodgeville, WI.  Both drivers were wearing safety belts.  Multiple witnesses reported that Bridgeland’s vehicle had been swerving over the centerline prior to the crash.  Autopsies and toxicology tests are scheduled for this morning, to determine if alcohol, controlled substances or possible medical issues are contributing driver factors in the crash.  The results of some of those tests likely won’t be available for several weeks.
