November 09, 2013:  Daily News Release

The following incident occurred on November 8, 2013:

MVC / OWI:
At 11:52 PM, Deputies responded to the W7600 block of Smock Valley Road, Jordan Township, for a vehicle in the ditch. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was eastbound when it failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle entered the ditch and struck several trees. The vehicle sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene. The airbags did not deploy. The driver was identified as Shaun M. Kelley, 20, of Monroe.  Kelley advised he was uninjured. Kelley was arrested for Operating While Under the Influence (2nd Offense), cited for Failure to Maintain Control of a Vehicle and Failure to Wear Safety Belt. Kelley was released pending court.
 
The following incidents occurred on November 9, 2013:
 
MV Crash:
At 5:15 a.m., Deputies were called to the N8900 block of CTH J, in York Township, for a report of a one-vehicle rollover. Colby F. Schmitz 24, Mount Horeb, was southbound on CTH J when he reported a deer entered the roadway. Schmitz swerved to avoid a collision, but overcorrected and the vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest in the roadway on its wheels. Schmitz reported wearing his seatbelt and had injuries, but declined medical treatment. There was no airbag deployment, the vehicle sustained severe overall damage, and it was towed from the scene.
 
Fleeing:
At 11:11 a.m., Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle in the City of Monroe after observing the vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of 17th St. and 4th Ave. West. The offending motor vehicle fled southbound, committing numerous other traffic violations. The pursuit was terminated in the area of Bethel Road and CTH B, after deputies had obtained a license plate number off the offending vehicle and was able to identify the offending driver. The Stephenson County Sheriff's Department and Freeport stopped the vehicle and the offender, Vicky Lynn Hayden-West, 35, of Monroe, was taken into custody on charges of Eluding Law Enforcement. Hayden-West remains in custody in the Stephenson County Jail, pending extradition back to Green County. Hayden also will be charged with five counts of Failure to Stop/Improper Stop at a Stop Sign, and with Unreasonable and Imprudent Speed.
 
MV Crash (Car vs. Deer):
At 4:26 p.m., Deputies responded to the N1900 block of STH 69, Clarno Township, for a motor vehicle crash. Christopher W. Gerke, 47, Browntown, was traveling south on STH 69 when a deer entered the roadway and collided with his vehicle. Gerke advised he was not injured and was wearing his seatbelt. There was no airbag deployment in the vehicle. The vehicle sustained moderate passenger side damage and was driven from the scene.
 
MV Crash (Car vs. Deer):
At 5:22 p.m., Jim B. Cue, 80, of Madison, struck a deer while operating northbound on STH 69, after passing Windmill Ridge in the Town of New Glarus. The vehicle received moderate damage. The Seatbelt was used and there was no airbag deployment. Vehicle was towed from the scene.
 
MV Crash (Car vs. Deer):
At 5:50 p.m., Deputies responded to the W8700 block of STH 11, in Cadiz Township, for a motor vehicle crash. Melinda M. Stietz, 37, of Gratiot, was traveling westbound on STH 11 when a deer collided with her vehicle. Stietz was the lone vehicle occupant, was wearing a seat belt, and was uninjured. Stietz's vehicle sustained moderate damage to the front end and passenger side with no air bag deployment and was later driven from the scene.
 
MV Crash (Car vs. Deer):
At 6:12 p.m., Michelle M. Anderson, 28, of Albany, collided with a deer on STH 59, west of CTH SS, in the Township of Sylvester. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and operated from the scene by the driver. Anderson was not injured and there was no airbag deployment.
 
MV Crash (Car vs. Deer):
At 7:57 p.m., Deputies responded to the W8700 block of STH 11, in Cadiz Township, for a motor vehicle crash. Maria W. Romanski, 78, of Browntown, was traveling westbound on STH 11 when a deer collided with her vehicle. Romanski was the lone vehicle occupant, was wearing a seatbelt, and was uninjured. Romanski's vehicle sustained severe damage to the front end and driver’s side (entire length of the vehicle) and was later driven from the scene. No air bag deployment.
 
MV Crash (Car vs. Deer):
At 9:21 p.m., Michael D. Sulzer, 56, of Monroe, collided with a deer while operating eastbound on CTH EE, in the W3600 Block, Town of Mt. Pleasant, causing moderate vehicle damage. There were no injuries, no entrapment, and seatbelt was used.
