February 12, 2014:  Daily News Release

The following incident occurred on February 10, 2014: 

Drug Arrest:
At 11:15 p.m., Deputies stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on 6th Street, near 26th Avenue, City of Monroe. Investigation resulted in the driver, Matthew P. Baumgartner, age 22, of Monroe, being arrested for Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and a Department of Corrections Probation Violation. The passenger identified as Cody J. Vavra, age 23, of Monroe, was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Both were jailed pending bond or court.  Baumgartner was cited for Obstructed Driver's Vision - Front. The Sheriff's Office K-9 Ike assisted with the stop.
The following incidents occurred on February 11, 2014:
Probation Violation:
At 10:56 a.m., Deputies were dispatched to the WI Department of Correction's Office at the Green County Justice Center to take William Docherty, age 32, of Monroe, into custody on a Probation Hold. Docherty was incarcerated at the Green County Jail.
Motor Vehicle Crash:
At 4:05 p.m., Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on Wittenwyler Road, at STH 69, Town of Mount Pleasant. Investigation revealed a vehicle operated by Barbara E. Astell Nelson, age 57, of Monticello, was traveling southbound on STH 69 when she signaled and began to turn eastbound onto Wittenwyler Road. A vehicle operated by Jay R. Johnson, age 23, of Monroe, was southbound on STH 69 behind Astell Nelson. Johnson attempted to slow; however, the brakes failed. Johnson then attempted to pass Astell Nelson on the left, causing his vehicle to collide with Astell Nelson's vehicle. Johnson’s vehicle then spun into the ditch, overturning one time.
Astell Nelson was not injured, her seatbelt was used, and the airbag did not deploy. The vehicle sustained moderate driver-side damage and was driven from the scene. Johnson was not injured, his seatbelt was used, and the vehicle was not equipped with airbags. Johnson's vehicle sustained moderate passenger-side and roof damage and was towed from the scene.
Johnson was cited for Operating without a License, Non-Registration of an Auto, Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance and Passing a Vehicle Indicating Left Turn,  He was released pending court.
