The following incidents occurred on June 20, 2014:
Operating While Under the Influence:
At 1:09 A.M., Deputies responded to STH 104 & CTH C, Town of Brooklyn, for a report of a vehicle in the ditch. While responding, the vehicle was able to get out of the ditch and continue southbound. Deputies stopped the vehicle for numerous violations. Investigation resulted with Andrew S. Hafferty, age 28, of Rockford, IL, being arrested for OWI 2nd Offense(alcohol). Hafferty was also cited for Unreasonable and Imprudent Speed, Failure to Maintain Control of a Vehicle, Failure to Dim Headlights, and Operating Left of Center. He was released to a responsible party pending court. The Brodhead Police Department assisted with the case.
At 11:28 A.M., Deputies, Juda Fire/FRU, and Green County EMS responded to a report from Onstar of a motorcycle crash on STH 11 at CTH OK. The crash location was on STH 11, .1 east of Bagley Road, in the Town of Jefferson. The investigation revealed Kerry D. Thomas, age 24, of Dodgeville, was leaving the driveway of W2571 STH 11 and was turning west onto STH 11. The glass cargo and the cargo holder on the truck tipped over and fell out of the cargo box, smashing all of the glass cargo onto the pavement. There was a westbound tractor trailer combination approaching this, which went around the debris on the left. Following that combination, was Mark David Smerz, age 62, of Brookfield, on a motorcycle. Smerz advised that the operator of the tractor slowed rapidly and he laid the cycle down on its left side. All vehicles were driven from the scene. There was no airbag deployment, seatbelts, helmet and eye protection were reported having been worn by the respective vehicle operators and the passenger in the vehicle Thomas was operating. Smerz sustained injuries, but declined transport from EMS. Tri-State Custom Windows, LLC, was cited for Failure to Secure Load.
At 4:35 P.M., Deputies responded to the Probation and Parole Office in the Green County Justice Center to take custody of Shane E. Thom, age 37, of Monroe, on a probation hold. He was confined at the Green County Jail.
Vehicle vs. Deer Crash:
At 9:40 P.M., a Deputy responded to a vehicle vs. deer crash at the intersection of CTH H and CTH N, Town of New Glarus. Trenten D. Disch, age 16, of rural New Glarus, was westbound on CTH H when a deer entered the roadway and collided with the vehicle. Disch and his passenger were not injured and were wearing seatbelts. The vehicle sustained moderate damage with no airbag deployment and was driven from the scene.
