January 04, 2016:  SHERIFF'S SPECIAL NEWS RELEASE

At 6:31 AM this date, Green County Dispatch received a 911 call of a head-on collision that occurred on State Highway 11, approximately ¼ mile west of County Road G. Deputies found that two vehicles, traveling in opposite directions, had collided, causing one to subsequently overturn. A total of three persons were injured. A female driver in one vehicle sustained injuries and was transported by Brodhead EMS to Mercy Hospital in Janesville. The male driver and occupant of the second vehicle sustained critical injuries and were subsequently flown to the UW Hospital in Madison via two Medflight helicopters. Apparently, seatbelts were used and airbags were deployed. Names of the injured are being withheld pending notification of family members. State Highway 11 was closed by the Green County Hwy. Department for a period of approximately four hours to facilitate emergency care and accident reconstruction by the Wisconsin State Patrol. Responders at the scene also included Green County Sheriff’s deputies, Juda Fire Department, Brodhead Fire Department, and Green County EMS. It was reported that there was significant traffic at the time, but no witnesses were identified. It is likely that such persons may have been asked to leave the area inadvertently to facilitate access by the emergency vehicles. Those persons would be asked to call the Green County Sheriff’s Office at 608-328-9400. An update to this press release is anticipated this afternoon as information develops throughout the day.
