April 27, 2016: Drug Arrests in Green County
During the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 20, 2016, agents from the State Line Area Narcotics Team (SLANT), and tactical teams from the Green County Sheriff’s Office and Monroe Police Department, executed two search warrants at separate residences on Pine Tree Road (rural Monroe), resulting in the arrest of three individuals.
Acting upon intelligence of illegal drug activity at one residence, officers seized approximately 55 pounds of processed marijuana, 30 growing plants, and equipment related to its cultivation, production, and sale. Officers also confiscated 22 firearms, $20,000.00 cash, and several vehicles. Michael J. Scott (46) was taken into custody on felony charges of: Manufacture/Production of Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Deliver, Maintaining a Drug Dwelling, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
At another nearby home, officers found 57 grams of marijuana and paraphernalia related to drug use/sale. Jolene R. Smith (55) was arrested at her residence on felony charges of: Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Delivery of Marijuana, Maintaining a Drug Dwelling, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Also, her husband, Jeffrey L. Smith (56), of the same address, was charged with Maintaining a Drug Dwelling and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Michael Scott was arraigned in Green County Circuit Court and released on a $12,000 signature bond, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 25. Jolene Smith was arraigned and released on an $8,000 signature bond, with an initial appearance scheduled for May 2. Jeffrey Smith was released on a $5,000 signature bond, and is likewise scheduled for his initial appearance on May 2.
The public is advised that criminal charges are simply an accusation and that defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Also, law enforcement makes no assertion that the activities at the two residences are necessarily related to each other.
