December 12, 2016:  Daily News Release

The following incidents were reported on Sunday, December 11, 2016:

MVC – Injury:

At 3:33 a.m.,  Deputies responded to a crash with injuries on Kelly Road, just north of CTH C, in the Town of Brooklyn.  Brian J. Smith, 56, Brooklyn, was snow plowing for Brooklyn Township southbound on Kelly Road, just north of CTH C, Brooklyn Township, when the passenger side plow "wing" dug into the road and snapped back.

The wing impacted the passenger-side door and A-pillar, causing moderate damage. The extension/stabilizer arm to the wing was also bent. The impact threw debris at Smith, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.  Smith reported wearing his seat belt and the vehicle is not equipped with airbags. Smith drove the vehicle from the scene.

No Valid DL:

At 5:47 a.m., Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on STH 11, near STH 81, in the Town of Spring Grove.  Jose Carlos Alvarez Alvarado, 24, Aurora, IL, was cited for Operating Without a Valid Driver’s License.  Alvarez Alvarado was released pending a court appearance.

MVC – Property Damage:

At 6:49 a.m., Deputies responded to the intersection of STH 59, at Rechsteiner Road, in the Town of Sylvester, for a report of a one-vehicle crash.  Todd J. Plantikow, 47, Monroe, was southbound on Rechsteiner Road when he failed to negotiate a small curve to the left.  Plantikow skidded through the stop sign on Rechsteiner Road and across STH 59.  Plantikow entered the ditch on the south side of STH 59, where he overturned onto the passenger side of the vehicle.  Plantikow was not injured and reported wearing his seat belt.  There was no airbag deployment. The vehicle sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene.

MVC – Property Damage:

At 9:32 a.m., Deputies responded to the intersection of W. Coates Avenue and Kennedy Street, in the Village of Monticello, for a vehicle vs. pole property damage crash.  Dennis R. Thoman, 69, Monticello, had been traveling west on W. Coates Avenue in a skid steer.  Kevin Jon Stauffer, 58, Monticello, was following in a pickup truck.  Thoman began turning left as Stauffer began to attempt to overtake the skid steer on the left.   As Thoman was turning, Stauffer swerved left and into a power pole, causing no damage to it, but caused moderate front-end damage to his vehicle. There was no collision between Stauffer and Thoman.   Stauffer reported wearing his seatbelt and was uninjured.  There was no airbag deployment and Stauffers vehicle was driven from the scene.

MVC – Property Damage:

At 1:17 p.m., Deputies responded to the N3700 block of STH 69, in the Town of Monroe, for a single vehicle crash.  Brooke Marie Menzia, 22, Fitchburg, had been travelling north when she lost control of the vehicle on the slippery roads.  Menzia’s vehicle traveled off road right and impacted the south end of the northbound guard rail before traveling down a steep embankment and coming to rest at the bottom of a ravine.

Menzia reported wearing her seatbelt and was uninjured. There was no airbag deployment.  The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene.

Operate After Suspension:

At 9:00 p.m., Margarito Sarmiento Martinez, 50, Monroe, was stopped for Failure to Yield Right of Way from a Stop Sign at STH 69 and CTH P, in the Town of Clarno.  Sarmiento Martinez was cited for OAS and warned for Failure to Yield Right of Way.  He was released pending a court appearance.
