January 11, 2017:  Daily News Release

The following incidents occurred on Tuesday, January 10th, 2017:

Motor Vehicle Crash:

 

At 4:27 AM, Deputies responded to the N6200 block of STH 69, Town of Mount Pleasant, for a two-vehicle crash.

 

Gary L. Grunder, 66, of Monticello, reported a northbound vehicle failed to dim their high beam headlights, which left him unable to see the lane markers. Grunder was traveling south when his truck went left of center and sideswiped a northbound vehicle operated by Diane L. Gempeler, 51, of Monroe.

 

Grunder and Gempeler both reported wearing their seat belts and were not injured in the crash. There was no air bag deployment in either vehicle. Grunder’s truck sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene. Gempeler’s vehicle sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene. Extremely icy/wet road conditions and poor visibility were contributing factors to the collision.

 

Motor Vehicle Crash:

 

At 4:41 AM, Deputies responded to the W4500 block of STH 11, Town of Jefferson, for a two-vehicle crash.

 

Investigation revealed that Alexandra L. Fox, 35, of Brodhead, was eastbound on STH 11 when she lost control of her vehicle on the ice-covered road. Todd A. Ils, 45, of Freeport, IL, was also eastbound on STH 11 and was unable to take evasive action due to the ice-covered road and collided with Fox’s vehicle. Fox and Ils were both wearing their seat belts and were not injured in the crash. The air bags did not deploy in either vehicle. Ils’ vehicle had moderate damage and was driven from the scene. Fox’s vehicle had moderate damage and was towed from the scene.

 

Motor Vehicle Crash:

 

At 5:02 AM, Deputies responded to the N3700 block of CTH J, Town of Monroe, for a one-vehicle crash. Corey L. Thomas, 36, of Freeport, IL, was northbound on STH 81 when he lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a slight curve, entered the ditch, and struck a tree and fence post.

 

Thomas was not injured and was wearing his seat belt. The air bags did not deploy. Thomas’ vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed from the ditch and then driven from the scene.

 

Motor Vehicle Crash:

 

At 5:53 AM, Deputies responded to the N7900 Block of CTH E, Town of Brooklyn, for a single vehicle crash. Investigation revealed that Joey D. Jaeggi, 54, of Monroe, was northbound on CTH E when he lost control of his vehicle due to the icy road conditions, entered the ditch, and struck a snow bank. Jaeggi was wearing his seat belt and was not injured in the crash. The air bags did not deploy in the truck. The vehicle sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene.

 

Motor Vehicle Crash:

 

At 8:37 AM, Deputies took a report of a one-vehicle crash that occurred in the W100 block of STH 81, Town of Spring Grove. Austin S. Cassaro, 26, of Machesney Park, IL, was westbound on STH 81 when he lost control of his vehicle due to the ice-covered road and struck a mail box. Cassaro was wearing his seat belt and was not injured in the crash. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle had moderate damage and was towed from the scene.

 

Motor Vehicle Crash-Personal Injury:

 

At 11:44 AM, Deputies, along with Blanchardville Fire, Blanchardville EMS, and Blanchardville Police Department, responded to the W9400 block of STH 39, Town of York, for a one-vehicle crash with injuries. Lajames D. Givens, 41, of Sheboygan, was traveling west when he reported that he swerved to avoid colliding with a deer and crashed his vehicle. Givens was wearing his seat belt and the air bags did not deploy. Givens was injured in the crash and was transported by EMS to a local hospital. The truck sustained very severe damage and was towed from the scene. Givens was cited for Expired Driver’s License and was released pending court.
