August 11, 2017:  Daily News Release

The following events occurred on Thursday, August 10th, 2017:

 

 

CAR VS. DEER:

 

At 5:52 AM, Deputies responded to the N5300 block State Highway 69, Town of Washington, for a car vs. deer crash.  Dennis W. Nipple, age 68, of Monroe, was northbound when a deer collided with his vehicle. Dennis reported wearing his seat belt and was not injured in the collision. His vehicle sustained moderate damage; there was no airbag deployment. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

 

MOTOR VEHICLE FIRE:

 

At 2:36 PM, Deputies, Monticello Police, and New Glarus Fire responded to the N7900 block of State Highway 69, Town of New Glarus, for a vehicle fire. The investigation revealed that Lucas A. Babler, age 19, of Orfordville, was travelling north when he smelled smoke. Lucas pulled over, popped the hood, and observed flames coming from the engine. Lucas and a passerby extinguished the fire. Lucas and his passenger reported wearing their seat belts and were not injured in the fire. The vehicle sustained moderate damage; there was no airbag deployment. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

 

MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH:

 

At 3:30 PM, Deputies responded to the intersection of State Highway 81 and County Highway M, Town of Jordan, for a two-vehicle crash. The investigation revealed that a van, operated by Simon A. Weaver, age of 65, of Kalona, IA, stopped at the stop sign and started to make a left turn. A passenger told Simon that he need to turn right. Simon backed up and collided with another vehicle, operated by Justin D. Zarling, age 41, of Browntown. All the occupants in both vehicles reported wearing their seat belts and were not injured in the collision. Simon’s vehicle sustained no damage; there was no airbag deployment. Justin’s vehicle sustained minor damage; there was no airbag deployment. Both vehicles were driven from the scene by their respective operators.

 

MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH WITH INJURIES:

 

 

At 9:22 PM, Deputies responded to County Highway F, at Tin Can Road, Town of Albany, for a one-vehicle crash. The investigation revealed that David D.B. Menehan, age 35, of Albany, was traveling east when a deer entered the roadway. David swerved to avoid the deer, but lost control of the vehicle. David reported wearing his seatbelt and that he sustained minor injuries; he declined treatment. The vehicle sustained moderate damage; there was no airbag deployment. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
