December 09, 2017:  Daily News Release

The following incidents occurred on Friday, December 8th, 2017:

Warrant Arrest/Narcotics Violation:

At 8:38 AM, Shane D. Riley, 32, of McConnell, IL, was taken into custody on an active Green County Child Support warrant/commitment order at the Green County Justice Center (2841 6th Street, Monroe, WI).

While being searched following his arrest for the warrant, Deputies located prescription pills on Riley’s person. Riley advised that he did not have a prescription for them. Riley was then jailed for the warrant and also Possession of Schedule I and II Narcotics, Felony Bail Jumping, and a Wisconsin Department of Corrections – Probation and Parole hold. Riley was held pending his court appearance.

Motor Vehicle Crash:

At 5:20 PM, Deputies responded to the N6100 block of STH 69, in the Town of Mount Pleasant, for a two-vehicle crash. A sports utility vehicle driven by Austin D. N. Diffenderfer, 18, of Brodhead, was going southbound on STH 69 when he started to slow down to make a left turn onto Wittenwyler Road. His vehicle was then rear ended by a car driven by Sean A. Owen, 42, of New Glarus, after he went to reach for his cell phone that had fallen from the console and did not realize the vehicle ahead of him started to slow down.

Diffenderfer's vehicle was pushed into the southeast ditch of the intersection, where it collided with a traffic sign post and then rolled. Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles' airbags deployed. Diffenderfer was wearing a seatbelt while Owen was not. Both vehicles sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene. Owen was transported to a local hospital. Diffenderfer declined medical attention at the scene. Owen will be cited for Inattentive Driving. The Monticello Fire and Police Department, along with the Green County Area EMS, assisted at the scene.
