March 03, 2010: Indoor Marijuana Grow Investigation/Arrests
On Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at approximately 7:20 a.m., members of the StateLine Area Narcotics Team (SLANT) along with members of the Green County Sheriff's Department Special Operations Team executed a search warrant at W2940 Washington Street in the Village of Juda. An indoor marijuana growing operation was located in the second floor of the residence, resulting in the seizure of 107 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, growing lights, fans, track systems, fertilizers, pots, irrigation material, remnants of previously harvested plants and a variety of other items used in the manufacture of marijuana. The home owner, Benjamin L. Hass, 24, was arrested for manufacture of marijuana, harboring a drug house and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hass was charged as a repeat offender due to a previous felony conviction for delivery of marijuana. A visitor in the home, Kevin W. Hayden, 35 of Juda was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Hass is incarcerated in the Green County Jail pending a court appearance. In the right conditions, cultivated marijuana plants yield on average a pound of marijuana per plant. The price per pound depends on the quality of the material along with the demand for marijuana in the area.
SLANT is comprised of representatives from the Illinois State Police, Green County Sheriff's Department, Monroe Police Department, Freeport Police Department, Stephenson County Sheriff's Department, Loves Park Police Department and Rockford Police Department.
